As we begin our time together, I would like to take a few moments to introduce myself and to tell you a little bit about our upcoming school year.
My name is Jenna LaFlamme. I was born and raised in the Quiet Corner of Connecticut and I love living (and raising my family) in this part of the state. I graduated from Eastern CT State University in 2008 with a B.A. in English. From there, I began working at an independent school in Providence, RI as a part of their Institutional Advancement team. It was in this role where my desire to become a teacher was reignited. Each and every day, I would speak to alumni, parents and friends about the extraordinary faculty at the school and the significant impact they were making in the lives of the students. I quickly remembered why it had always been my passion to become an educator. And so, with two small children at home, I began the process of going back to school to obtain my CT teaching certification. I completed that process in May of 2015 at Sacred Heart University and began my teaching career here at Tourtellotte in 2015. Over the course of my first few years at TMHS, I also obtained my Master's in Education at Sacred Heart University.
Outside of the classroom, I try to spend as much time as possible with my family, including my two children, my husband, and our dogs, Delta and Thor. I love reading (obviously) when I can find a few spare minutes to pick up a novel. I also enjoy running, playing my guitar, and watching superhero movies with my kids.
Students: We are beginning a very exciting journey together. I am completely confident that all of you will have a successful and meaningful experience in our classroom. I will try to make your time in our classroom as enjoyable and productive as possible. I enjoy finding creative ways for us to explore our content area. As we begin our school year, please remember that our success as a class depends highly on your participation, commitment and enthusiasm. Coming to class ready to work each day and adhering to all classroom expectations will help you and your classmates meet and exceed the high expectations I have set for you. I very much look forward to working with you and getting to know you this year.
Parents/guardians: I have a very exciting year planned for your student, and I would greatly appreciate it if you would read through the course description, classroom rules, and expectations detailed in the syllabus for your student’s class. I believe that open communication between teachers and parents/guardians is essential to student success, and I welcome any opportunity to communicate with you throughout the school year. I would greatly appreciate any support that you are willing to offer as we work together this year in supporting your student’s success. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at [email protected].
WELCOME AND LOOKING FORWARD TO A FANTASTIC YEAR!!!
